Adventurers 7

Adventurers 7

Hello and welcome to Adventurers 7, a Year 3 class taught by Miss Wilkinson.

Welcome

The jump to KS2 is always a big one, but I want you to know that I can not wait to welcome you into my class. We are going to have a fantastic year together!

Important Dates

Year 3 Class Assembly – Tuesday 26th April
Bank Holiday (School closed to pupils) – Monday 2nd May
INSET Day (School closed to pupils) – Thursday 5th May

Don't Forget!

School day for most children commences at 8:45am and finishes at 3:15pm.

Some children in Adventurers 7 will need to come to school at 8:30am daily for Phonics. Your child will have received a letter if this applies to them.

School day for Year 3 commences at 8:45am and finishes at 3:15pm. As with last year, parents are not allowed on site during drop-off without an appointment so we ask that you wait at the main buzzer gate (car park entrance) at drop off.

During pick up you can collect your child from our classroom fire door. Gates will open at 3:10pm for pickup at 3:15pm. If you need to collect your child any earlier you must report to the office.

KS2 pupils are entitled to milk, either free or paid, however paid milk MUST be paid on Parent Pay. Please see the school office if you need help using Parent Pay.

Reading

Reading is a hugely important part of our curriculum, and we ask that you aim to read with your child at least 3 times per week (and sign their pink reading diaries). As part of our new reading initiative this year, children who have read to an adult 3 times in a week will receive a sticker or stamp on their own personal reading bookmark. Once they fill their bookmark they will receive a special reward!

PE

P.E. for Class 7 in the Autumn term will be on a Wednesday afternoon where we will have the wonderful Mr Gilmore for gymnastics.

On P.E. Days, children will need to wear the correct P.E. kit. This should be kept on their pegs for the half term in case of any timetable changes:

      • Plain white t-shirt (with or without school logo)
      • Navy or black jogging bottoms/leggings or shorts
      • Black or white trainers
      • School hoodie or plain navy hooded top (optional)

We are also very lucky to be able to go swimming on a weekly basis. We will be walking to Boldon Comp on a Monday morning for swimming lessons with Mr Turner.

Children will need to bring appropriate swimming kit on Mondays to take part:

      • Swimming costume (no two-pieces)
      • Towel
      • Swimming hat / goggles (optional)

Homework

Homework in Adventurers 7 consists of daily reading (as mentioned above) and weekly spellings. Spellings will be given out on a Monday and tested on a Friday. Remember to use Spelling Shed at home to practise! We will also practise daily in school.

On ClassDojo, the Year 3 staff will be sharing a weekly focus. This will be something we have been working on in English and Maths, and is optional homework your child may want to complete to extend their learning.

Mental Arithmetic

In Adventurers 7 we will complete daily Mental Arithmetic sessions. These may include recapping methods taught in maths, recalling number bonds, or times tables. Children are able to practise these skills at home using Maths Shed or Times Table Rockstars.

If your child needs a new log in for either of those platforms, please get in touch.

Termly Topics

Our topics for the Summer 1 half term are as follows:

Literacy: Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura
Guided Reading: Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse by Chris Riddell and The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo
Maths: Fractions
Learning Means the World: Lindow Man
R.E: What do Hindus believe?
French: Breakfast and fruit nouns
PE: Gymnastics and Swimming
PSHE: Growing and Changing and First Aid

Please see our Curriculum pages for each year group’s long term planning.

ClassDojo

This year we will be continuing to Class Dojo school-wide as a means of maintaining parent communication and as our whole-school rewards system. I will be posting regular updates to our Class Story throughout the year as well as reminders for parents and pupils.

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year!
