Launching a rocket!

The children in the ARC have had a lot of fun in the garden with our new resources. The rocket launcher was a clear hit!! Lots of negotiating, communicating, turn taking and team work going on!

Year 4 Multi-Skills

Year 4 had a very active day yesterday at Sunderland University. We took part in a multi-skills PE day with some trainee teachers. They had planned some very challenging but fun PE games. A favourite being crab football! The children did very well at all of the activities, showing great perseverance. They represented West Boldon Primary very well and we’re all very taken with the facilities at the university – with lots of the children making plans for their future while we were there!

Class 10 update!

The children in class 10 have been busy since coming back to school for the Autumn term. We have started our new Power Maths lessons and are using the manipulatives well to support understanding. We have also been exploring the three times tables with practical resources. In PE, we have been working with a coach to develop ball control skills. Also in computing we are learning about networks, today creating our own “human LAN” to explore how our school network functions.

The Lost Happy Endings

In guided reading one Year 4 group are reading the gorgeous story “The Lost Happy Endings”. We have been thinking about the character of the witch. We were inspired to improve our vocabulary and have been so excited to use thesaurus’ to find synonyms for our adjectives.

Year 4 Football Tournament

Year 4 had a great afternoon taking part in the football tournament at Boldon School. Three teams took part and all of the children played to the best of their abilities. Determination, resilience and team work best describe all of the children’s efforts. One team ended the afternoon being awarded medals for winning their league but all of the children were winners to us. Well done Team Westies!

The Giving Project Update 21st July 2023

‘TO GIVE, TO HELP, TO BE KIND AND CREATE HAPPINESS’

A new project has been introduced into the school

To Give, To Help, To Be Kind and Create Happiness.

 

Contributing to the celebrations for the end of the school year, the children volunteers made beautiful thank you cards for all staff, volunteers, sports coaches and students who work in our school, to say ‘thank you’ for everything they do each day, to make the school year a great one!

The children enjoyed making the cards in their spare time and were so excited to deliver them!

The cards were very gratefully received.

Romero Britto

Year 4 have been learning about Brazil in our “Picture our Planet” topic. This week, we have been learning about famous Brazilian neo-pop artist Romero Britto. We have learnt all about how he draws inspiration from cubism and graffiti art. We then practised making collages of his art work using a cutting template. Once we had the hang of it, we used the same cutting template to cut pieces of fabric to create a carnival collage. We worked hard to choose patterns and colours that complimented each other and then added decorations.
