Hello and welcome to Class 7, a Year 3 class taught by Miss Wilkinson. I know that things have been quite strange lately, and this jump to KS2 may feel bigger than ever, but I want you to know that I can not wait to welcome you into my class. We are going to have a fantastic year together!

Monday 7th September – INSET Day

Tuesday 8th September – First day of term!

There have been some changes to our school this year and there are a few things you need to know before starting back with us this year.

School day for Year 3 commences at 9am and finishes at 3:15pm. Parents/carers are not allowed on site so we ask that you wait at the upper side gate (Hindmarch Drive) at drop off and collection times. There will be signs on either side of the date showing where to line up for each Year 3 class.

KS2 pupils are entitled to milk, either free or paid, however paid milk MUST be paid on Parent Pay. Please see the school office if you need help signing up to Parent Pay.

This term  we are very lucky as our P.E. lessons will be taught by Tony, and they will take place on a Monday morning. Please make sure you have the correct P.E. kit in school and this must stay on your peg for the half term.

Swimming will also take place this half term on a Wednesday afternoon. We will walk over to Boldon School and the children will be taught by Mrs Legg. Please make sure you have the appropriate kit as due to current restrictions, children are unable to borrow any kit from the centre.

Reading is a hugely important part of our curriculum, and we ask that you aim to read with your child at least 3 times per week (and sign their pink reading diaries). Children who have read to an adult 3 times in a week will be able to tick a square on our class reading challenge. Once we reach 100 we will be rewarded with a class prize! Let’s get reading!

Homework in Year 3 consists of daily reading (as mentioned above) and weekly spellings. Spellings will be given out once per week and tested on a Friday morning.

Our topics for the Autumn 1 half term are as follows:

Science: How can Usain Bolt move so quickly? (Animals Including Humans)

History: Who first lived in Britain? (Stone Age to Iron Age)

DT: How did the Early Britons make shelters? (Structures)

Computing: e-Safety and Going for Gold (DL & IT)

Music: Let your spirit fly (Charanga)

R.E: How do Hindus worship?

PSHE: Relationships and Friendships

French: A New Start

This year we will be using Class Dojo school-wide as a means of maintaining parent communication and as our whole-school rewards system. I will be posting regular updates to our Class Story throughout the year as well as reminders for parents and pupils.

If you need an invite to join our classroom as a Parent/Guardian please let me know.

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year!
