Hello and welcome to Class 12! We are a Year 6 class taught by Mrs Lauderdale.
It is great to see everyone back and in the swing of things. Year 6 is a fantastic year group and every pupil is working hard to achieve the best they possibly can.
Dates for Diaries:
Wednesday 11th November – Flu vaccinations
Friday 18th September – Inset Day (school closed to pupils)
Start time: 9.15 Main gate
End time: 3.30 Main gate
PE is taught every Tuesday. Children need to come into school dressed in their outdoor PE kits. This includes joggers/leggings, PE shirt, hoody/sweatshirt, trainers. Swimming is on hold at the moment, due to Boldon School’s Covid rules.
Reading is extremely important to learning in school and is a fantastic life skill. The majority of Year 6 are free readers, which means they have a choice of a wide variety of books from our Year group library. Children read in school and at home and change them when finished. We are working together to achieve a class treat – read 3 times a week and you will achieve a tick on our chart. When we reach 100 ticks we get a lovely (and usually delicious) treat! Let’s work together to achieve our goal!
Year 6 get homework on Mondays and it is due in on Fridays. A variety of homework will be given throughout the year: GPaS, reading comprehension, maths. These are all key skills that children need extra practise in. Please ensure your child completes all homework tasks. Spellings are given out on Monday to learn over the week and a test is undertaken on Friday. Pupils will also be set tasks on Spelling Shed, Maths Shed and TTRockstars. Codes for these have been handed out to children.
End of Key Stage Assessments (the SATs) take place in May 2021. Government guidelines state at the moment that these SATs will take place in May (see below for dates). We gradually build up the skills needed for these tests to ensure children achieve what they are all capable of. They are a moment in time and do not show the worth of your whole child, so please do not worry.
Our topics for the Autumn 1 half term are as follows:
Maths: Place Value, Four operations and fractions
Literacy: My dad’s a Birdman and The Island
Science: Why is the heart the most important pump we own? (Animals Including Humans)
Geography: Do we ever see the water we drink again?
Art: By studying other artists, can I capture my own picture of an animal?
Music: Happy (Charanga)
R.E: Why do people have ceremonies and use rituals in their lives?
PSHE: Relationships and Friendships

This year we will be using Class Dojo school-wide as a means of maintaining parent communication and as our whole-school rewards system. I will be posting regular updates to our Class Story throughout the year as well as reminders for parents and pupils.
Finally, as a class we came up with a Class 12 motto – which I think is perfect!
